Riverside, California, is a treasure trove of history, arts, and culture. The citrus industry played a pivotal role in shaping the region’s economy and culture. In the late 19th century, Riverside became one of the first cities to cultivate navel oranges leading to the establishment of expansive orchards and the emergence of Riverside as a key player in California’s citrus boom. By the early 20th century, the city was recognized as the “Citrus Capital of the World,” Today, remnants of this citrus heritage can still be seen in the form of historic groves, the annual Riverside Citrus Heritage Celebration, and the city’s commitment to preserving its agricultural legacy, which continues to influence its identity and economy
The city is also home to the stunning Mission Inn, a National Historic Landmark that showcases beautiful Spanish Colonial architecture and serves as a centerpiece for various cultural events. Well known for its Annual Festival of Lights Celebration, it is one of the nation’s largest and was voted “Best Public Lights Display” by USA Today. The 32nd annual kickoff ceremony is November 23, 2024, and runs through December 31, 2024.
